We have been working with SCH for nearly two years to improve conditions at the orphanage in Desarmes to meet a level acceptable to IBESR (Haitian Social Services) such that they would grant a license for it to operate as an official orphanage. IBESR has been regularly monitoring our progress.
Last month we made a push to finish out the construction of rooms used to house orphans and complete a partially constructed kitchen (two requirements from the IBESR). Thanks to the financial support from Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral, Florida, and a team of SCH and THC workers, we were able to complete this work. Following the inspection by IBESR this month, the national director notified us that they are granting the license we have been waiting for! Of the 24 organizations that applied for a license in Haiti's Artibonite region, SCH is the only organization that has been approved. There is still much to do in order to maintain the license but we praise God for this very significant development and the favor He has shown us with the Haitian government.
On June 14, IBESR is hosting a nation-wide gathering in Gonaives for orphans from licensed organizations, and they have invited SCH to bring orphans to participate this year! As we continue to press forward with the development of orphan care initiatives, please pray that these efforts will make a lasting difference in the lives of these children and ultimately transformation that can only come from God and His glorious gospel.
